The Korean ratings board for video games is notorious for letting things slip, and it looks like it's happened again. This time, though, it's a newly posted rating for a game that's over 10 years old — Red Dead Redemption.
Over on the website, the listing is available to view, and the English translation certainly sounds like Rockstar's PS3-era classic. But why apply for a new rating for this game in 2023? The conclusion many are coming to is that Rockstar is bringing the game onto modern platforms in one way or another. Indeed, the listing states Take Two applied for the rating on 15th June 2023 and it's now been approved, so it's a fresh rating.
Fans of the open world western are hoping for a remaster, or even a remake, on modern hardware. Unfortunately there's no indication of that on the listing itself; this could be a more straightforward port. Whatever the case may be, Korean ratings like this usually lead to an announcement down the line, so we'd expect to hear something about this in the coming months.
What do you make of this? Are we joining John Marston once again with a revisit to Red Dead Redemption? Discuss in the comments section below.

I would kill for a remaster in the Red Dead 2 engine and i would kill for a 60fps patch for Red Dead 2.
I actually wasn't as into RDR1 as I ended up being for RDR2. That said though I wouldn't mind giving it a new playthrough with the context RDR2 provides so I'd like this to be true.
Red Dead Redemption Collection.
Both Games & DLCs Included.
I can dream.
... a VR mode would also be cool.
With all these remasters/remakes it would also be the perfect time to add VR modes. Since it would just be an add-on it could also be something very minimal (third person, pad controls, limited to people with good VR legs). But I guess developers are too afraid of negative feedback from VR purists or people who would feel excluded. And likely >650k people are just not enough to care about.
The better RDR game. Hope it will include a 60 fps mode, and maybe they'll bring an upgrade for RDR 2.
I would take any version of RDR1, even just a port. I massively prefer it to the sequel, even if the sequel is obviously also great
GTA IV while you're at it too. Cheers lads
Modders tried to remaster the PS3 version through some RPCS3 black magic, but Rockstar shut it down. A current gen version is 100% in the works.
Would I love an RDR 1 port? Yep...but given Take-two's utter disdain for their single player back catalogue after the GTA Trilogy remastered "definitive edition",I'd fear another Grove Street Games & some A.I. Bots type effort!🙄
Not to mention the rumours that either some source code was lost or the game is held together by spaghetti code/sticky tape! Whilst one would treat these things with a grain of salt, part of the Leslie Benzies suit mentioned being brought in on RDR's troubled development & cracked the whips to get it into a shippable condition,so who knows. 🤔
If it'll be anything less than a Remake, there'll be tons of backlash on social media picking apart every single graphical drawback or outdated mechanic...
So if they think of bringing it back, they should go full throttle, or forget about it.
@Toilet_Goat Nice to hear someone else say it! I tend not to mention that I thought the first was a better and more enjoyable game as people tend to discount that view. I enjoyed the 2nd one, it was technically magnificent, but I got more laughs enjoyment and memories from the first one. I think Take Two are going all in on GTA 6 next year, so Id be surpised to see a big remaster of this. If they do, I do hope its done in house with the quality bar set high.
It would be a shame to see a poorly executed version sully the memories of this classic.
Either a remaster or a remake would be cool by me. I completed RDR2 last year and enjoyed it, so it'd be nice to play its chronological sequel on modern systems with a face lift.
Hopefully it'll be done in-house and not outsourced to the likes of the team who botched the GTA Trilogy, though.
@Titntin Yeah, agreed. I also just feel like RDR1 just has so much soul that's lacking in the sequel. Its atmosphere in particular was exquisite.
I implore that they do a remaster.
One of my favorite games. I never finished Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, so it would be nice to have the option on current Gen to do so.
I know it's hugely unlikely, especially considering Rockstar don't really bother with expanding on their single player content anymore (I'm still waiting for all the extra weapons, clothing items, horses etc from RDOnline to be added to the story) but I would love love love for them to "remake" the first game in the second and have it all merged together as a huge story with all the mechanics of the second game retrofitted to the first, sort of like the new Hitman trilogy.
That way you could play all the way through from fleeing Blackwater as Arthur to Jack getting revenge.
Can't wait for absolutely nothing to come out of this because Rockstar does even less than Naughty Dog
Even a port of it would be great, as it's not available on modern platforms. Whilst RDR2 is the better game from a technical standpoint, I personally enjoyed the story and characters more in RDR1.
Echoing most of the other comments - would love a RDR2 PS5 port, but would also be stoked to play the first, as I've not played it before.
I preferred the first game but I'm not sure I have the time to delve into it again. It was good but it was no Witcher 3.
About time (hopefully)! There is no way, unless you still own a PS3/XBOX360 to play this game which is just ridiculous in this day and age. Ditto for GTA 4. Rockstar have to get those two games on to modern consoles even if it is just a port.
Remaster would be amazing!! I’d be happy with a ps5 port though.
Ditto the thoughts of some others here that despite the second game being superior in so many gameplay and world crafting aspects I generally prefer the original. Mostly just prefer playing as John and his journey.
A total remake in the sequel world/engine would be the best, a basic remaster next best, but failing those a straight functional port to current gen would still be welcome.
I'm sceptical it's any of this and won't get my hopes up until an official announcement.
Rdr 1 on rdr 2 engine would be the greatest game to ever game. But keep hunting like rdr 1. Rdr 2 was to technical and took the fun out.
Would be great if they did a remaster and added some dialogue about Arthur.
Can we get GTA IV too please. Tho I am super stocked if RDR is true.
@Netret0120 @WallyWest yes to both your ideas. Red Dead is my favorite series all time. So this would be amazing. Plus RDR1 isn’t even on PS5 no more. So this would be great to have it back. I still play it on the BC on Series X and it looks really good. But a remake would be amazing. Yes to the collection and leave the online out from RDR2. As much as i tried to get into it, it just wasn’t very good. also Wally this is Green Bandit, i changed my tag, hope you are feeling better and this new’s leads to something. We have heard about this project before and Rockstar said it was paused to help GTA6.
And Red Dead Revolver.
@HonestHick Honestly i think i prefer Red Dead to GTA nowadays, Red Dead 2 is R*s masterpiece in my opinion and it really annoys me it can't get a 60fps patch for current gen. As for Red Dead yeah i have it on Series S, bought it during a sale last year and it was great playing it again as well as the incredible Undead Nightmare (best DLC ever).
Much preferred the first game and was one of my fav of that generation so would love a ps5 remaster!
@WallyWest i for sure like it better than GTA, but RDR only sells 50 million and GTA sells 100 plus million, so the attention is all on that and i get it. But yes give us RDR players a bone rockstar. We are only asking for 60FPS and minor updates to the already excellent RDR2 on last gen. Then a RDR1 remake would be the icing on the cake for the series. It would be playable on both PS5 and Series X/S in great condition. I sure hope something comes of this rumor. Would be great. RDR and Diablo are in my top 5 all time gaming franchises. So to get both of those early in this gen would be amazing for me. I’ll be playing Diablo 4 for years and years. But i miss RDR right now.
@crimsontadpoles it’s on Xbox one and Series X/S in the BC program with upgraded visuals and performance on X/S. I played it on Series X with the upgrade and it looks stunning for an older game. Still one of my favorite games of all time. It is however missing on PS5 cause of the cell processor and PS3 BC issues. So getting this back on PS5 would be a huge deal and something i hope that happens sooner than later. 🤠
Just give me the second game on PS5, please, for the love of all that is sacred
@HonestHick The annoying always online stuff aside i'm loving Diablo 4, i'm around half way into act 4 and very close to Lv 50 but already its my favourite entry.
@WallyWest yeah it’s a killer game. I really loved D2 as it’s an all time PC great. Maybe the best PC game ever. Still to this day played. D3 was good, not great. But very very good. I owned it on Xbox and played it a ton. Probably will still log in a play some from time to time. But yes Diablo 4 has all the makings to be my all time favorite. I got it on Series X and my buddy got it on PS5 and we played a few times on cross play and it worked flawlessly. Thats how all games should be. Cross play is amazing and just seems right. 😊
I want Bully though :/
@HonestHick I actually like how the online side works, i was worried a shared world could cause issues but its all pretty chill. Its fun seeing other players roaming around doing their thing or everyone in the same area teaming up for an event, really makes the world feel alive.
@WallyWest 100% agree buddy. I was like how is this going to work and does it take away from what i know and already love about the series. The answer for me is it’s really cool like you stated. Well said 😀
hope to see on ps4
YES!!!! This and a 60fps patch for RDR2.
Please.
